Chargers Set Event Records at Fighting Scot Invitational

The Carl Sandburg College women’s golf team had its best-ever showing at the fall Fighting Scot Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at Gibson Woods.

The Chargers posted school-best marks for 18- and 36-hole scores at the tournament while finishing in fourth place. Sandburg opened with a 355 Saturday and added a round of 342 on Sunday for a 697 total. They broke the previous event records of 354 and 714 set last year.

Sophomore Jaeden Workman (Morrison, Ill./Morrison) closed with a 4-over-par 76 Sunday to finish at 160 for the weekend and in fifth place to lead the Chargers.

Freshman Kelly Kennedy (Henry, Ill./Henry-Senachwine) shot 85-87 to finish 13th, and sophomore Madison Newton (Erie, Ill./Erie) had rounds of 89 and 88 tie for 17th overall. Elizabeth Whitford (Dahinda, Ill./Galva) tied for 23rd after shooting 97 on Saturday and 91 Sunday.

Augustana finished at 658 for the weekend to beat Illinois College by 13 shots. Knox’s Shelby Keen was medalist with rounds of 78 and 76 to win by four strokes over Augustana’s Melanie Loeffler.
